Letter: District 153 officials thank voters for referendum approval (free)

Last week, the citizens of Homewood voted overwhelmingly in support of a referendum for Homewood School District 153. Our district has a proud tradition of providing a well-rounded education to nearly 2,000 students a year, with a strong emphasis on not only traditional academic areas such as math and Language Arts but also the visual and performing arts, and physical education five days a week.

Our mission is “All students will learn; all students will be served,” and we could not achieve this mission without the support of you, our taxpayers. Please know that we take very seriously the responsibility to be good stewards of your tax dollars, as previous boards of education have done for decades.

Most importantly, we want to express our deepest gratitude to all of Homewood for the investment you have made in our current and future generations of children. In a time when so many communities seek to cut spending on education, the citizens of Homewood have shown our neighboring communities and all of Illinois where true priorities should lie.

Scott McAlister
District 153 superintendent of schools
Shelly Marks
District 153 Board of Education president
