Hike the Freedom Trail on Nov. 19

Reservations are being accepted for the “Hike the Freedom Trail” tour from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Guests learn about the role abolitionists who lived along the Little Calumet River played in helping former slaves get to freedom in Canada. Volunteers with the Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project serve as historians for the hike. They will outline how they have discovered the importance of the area to the Underground Railroad.

The tour is free. The program is sponsored by the Forest Preserves of Cook County. It starts at the Beaubien Woods boat launch at 134th Street and the Little Calumet River front. Participants will board a bus that will take them to various spots on the historic route to freedom.

Reservations are being accepted by Tom Shepherd at 773-370-3305 or at [email protected].
