Homewood mayor urges support for District 153 referendum

Outstanding schools, a winning park district, a great library and a well-run, welcoming village make the Homewood community the jewel of the South Suburbs. All are operating in a responsible manner, keeping in mind costs and the services they provide.

The Homewood School District has made a decision to seek a referendum which will provide funds for long-needed building improvements and to fund and enhance school programs. These decisions are not made lightly. I know that board members agonize over them, do their homework and review all options. All revenue and expenses are reviewed, alternatives and choices are considered, until the final decision is made.

It is not easy to advocate for a school tax referendum; however, the value that our schools provide to Homewood make it all that necessary.

I encourage the community to support the Nov. 8 Homewood School District 153 referendum.
