Homewood-Flossmoor High School seniors Fatima Hernandez and Faye Wettstein have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are among the estimated 34,000 students across the nation who are being recognized with this honor for their exceptional academic promise.
Both students are part of H-F’s Class of 2023 International Baccalaureate program, open to H-F’s most gifted students who follow a special curriculum meeting the requirements of six specific groups: English; foreign language; social sciences; physics; math and arts/music. Fatima also takes Project Lead the Way Engineering classes, and Faye is studying AP Art History and Ceramics/Sculpture.
“This honor is a testament to Fatima’s and Faye’s commitment to scholarship and academic excellence,” Principal Clinton Alexander said. “The Viking community couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last school year. This is the final award they will receive in the 2023 competition for National Merit Scholarships.
