The ceremonial groundbreaking for the Wind Creek Casino took place early in June but the real earth moving began this week on the north side of the site at 174th and Halsted Street. The site is shared by East Hazel Crest and Homewood.
Crews began removing old piping in preparation for the start of building construction soon. The gaming facility will open before work starts on the hotel.
Wind Creek announced its plans for the casino in October 2019. In December 2021, the Illinois Gaming Board awarded the south suburban casino license to Wind Creek.
