Puppy also stolen in Harwood Ave. carjacking

Update at 10:43 p.m. Friday: Homewood Police report that Cooper the dog was found.

A carjacker got away with a vehicle and a family pet during an incident in the evening of Friday, Sept. 30.

At about 6 p.m., a man said he was standing outside his vehicle in the 18600 block of Harwood Avenue when a man in his 20s entered the driver’s front seat.

The owner of the vehicle, a white 2015 Subaru SUV, got into the passenger’s side front seat. At that time, he told police, the offender displayed a firearm and started driving away.

As the SUV started to move, the vehicle owner fell out and the offender drove away. Inside the car was the family pet, an 11-month-old golden retriever puppy. He has a shaved back and answers to Cooper.

The victim described the offender as a black man in his 20s, wearing all gray clothing.

The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit is conducting an investigation, and asks anyone who may have information related to the incident to contact them at 708-206-3420.
