District 233 Superintendent Scott Wakeley met with University of Illinois leaders Sept. 8 getting a chance to stress the need for an “educator pipeline” and the need for college affordability.
U of I System President Timothy L. Killeen and University of Illinois-Chicago Interim Chancellor Javier Reyes listened to superintendents from three south suburban districts – H-F District 233, Rich District 227 and Bremen District 228 – as part of their listening tour taking them to communities across the state.
“The roundtable discussion with University of Illinois system leaders and local superintendents examined many important needs of the Southland, including increased partnerships related to manufacturing, internships and career pathways,” Wakeley said. “We also spoke about enhancing the educator pipeline to recruit more students of color into the profession, as well as affordability of college for families.
“I look forward to future conversations about ways Homewood-Flossmoor High School can partner with the University of Illinois system to serve our students and community,” he said.
