Local police officers collect nearly $3K for Special Olympics

Homewood and Flossmoor police officers were up early on Friday, Aug. 19, and they were up high, too, for the annual Cop on a Roof fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Police partner each year with Dunkin' to raise money for Special Olympics, which creates opportunities for athletes with disabilities to compete. 

Flossmoor officers perched on the shop at 3608 Vollmer Road most of the morning, starting at 5 a.m. Homewood officers were posted on the roof of the shop at 17579 Halsted St.

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.
