GSU to host panel discussion on democracy and the media

Governors State University will present a panel discussion examining democracy and the media on Thursday, Sept. 22, in Room F1622 to celebrate the launch of the school’s new Center for Community Media.

Journalist and author Moustafa Bayoumi and professor and journalist Oswaldo Zavala will participate in “A Conversation on Democracy, Inclusion, and the Media.”

The roughly 90-minute program is open to the public; RSVP here to reserve a seat. The doors open at 6:45 p.m. with remarks by GSU President Cheryl Green scheduled for 6:55 p.m. The panel will discuss the topic for approximately an hour and leave time for a Q&A session.

The new center’s goal is to provide the campus and Southland communities with public service and educational media programming and news coverage in order to build trust, foster media literacy, support democratic engagement, increase civic awareness and amplify the diverse voices of the community.
