The Bistro on Sterling hosts second annual Joe Cairo Drive For Hope fundraiser

On Saturday, Aug. 20, The Bistro on Sterling restaurant in Flossmoor will host its second annual Joe Cairo Drive For Hope fundraiser to raise awareness on substance abuse. The event will take place at Coyote Run Golf Course, 800 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor.

The Bistro on Sterling owners Tracey and Rich Cairo are hosting the event in honor of Joseph Anthony Cairo, Rich’s son.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Live4Lali, a nonprofit organization focused on overdose awareness. According to the organization’s website, Live4Lali works to reduce the stigma and prevent substance use disorder among individuals, families and communities, and to minimize overall health, legal and social harms associated with substance use.

The organization’s vision is to work to prevent substance use disorder when possible and offer compassionate support to reduce harms among individuals, families and communities when that is not possible.

Tracey Cairo, Joseph’s stepmom, says The Bistro on Sterling in downtown Flossmoor is open to connect individuals with resources for overdose awareness and prevention.

“There is so much support out there, you just need to reach out. There is always someone with compassion and caring,” she said.

Last year, the event raised $20,000. The goal for this year’s event is $30,000. To date, the golf, dinner, and hole-in-one sponsor tickets have sold out, and 30 gift baskets from local small businesses and individuals will be raffled off.

Golfers will play 18 holes of golf, that includes a cart, range balls and a box lunch. A buffet dinner will be served afterward, with a cash bar. Guests will view a video about Joe Cairo and hear from speakers. The evening will end with the raffle.

Rich Cairo recalled a time he changed someone’s life with his testimony, leading them away from a life of addiction. He recognized that many others are going through this issue.

“If I could help one person, one family by doing this fundraiser, then I did something,” he said.

Donations for Live4Lali or raffle prizes are being accepted. Sponsorship for the beverage cart is also open. Contact [email protected] for details.
