Homewood police said the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel and struck the pole at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Collett Lane.

The driver refused medical treatment, police said, and no citations were issued. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

A ComEd spokesperson said 751 customers in the area were affected, but power was restored by 10:40 a.m.
