Chevrolet of Homewood to host annual BBQ for the Troops fundraiser on Saturday

Another annual local event that was affected by the pandemic is making a comeback this year. The Chevrolet of Homewood BBQ for the Troops fundraiser will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, at the dealership, 18333 S. Halsted St. in Homewood.

Proceeds from the event benefit the USO, which is a private organization that provides hospitality and support to members of the military.

As always, military branches will be represented. The Army will bring a military vehicle. The Air Force will have games and prizes. The Marines will help visitors test their strength on a pull up bar.

The focus this year has been on including more local businesses, according to Tima Lonkar, internet sales director for the dealership. Early in July she said 15 small businesses have been confirmed, and she was seeking more.
