Luckeyia’s Balloons in Homewood now open for design, distribution and DIY

Anyone in the area who wants decorative balloons should be able to find what they need at Luckeyia’s Balloons, according to owners Luckeyia and Anthony Murry of Markham.

The couple held a grand opening on June 25 for their new shop at 18675 Dixie Highway in Homewood.

They explained that the shop will sell balloon bouquets, but it will also provide do-it-yourself bouquets that customers can design themselves.

As Luckeyia explained: “You can send us a design (for DIY). I’ll do it. I’ll inflate all of the balloons for you. You come pick it up and install it yourself,” she said.

The shop will also be a balloon distributor, so other designers can get their balloon needs met there, she said.

Luckeyia said she is a certified balloon designer and has been designing for eight years. She got her start when her oldest daughter and her husband were expecting their first child.

“They wanted balloons, and it was on a tight budget, so I learned how to do balloons,” she said. “From there it just took off.”

As soon as they get settled in the new shop, the couple plans to offer classes in balloon design as a way to share the joy of creation.

Luckeyia said she loves the peaceful feeling design gives her.

“Doing balloons is very soothing to me,” she said. “And it gives me a chance to be creative. I love it when a customer says, ‘You have full creative freedom.’ That’s the best thing to have.”

Shop hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
