Welcoming ceremony is Thursday for Wall That Heals

Organizers are planning a 1 p.m. welcoming ceremony on Thursday, July 7, for guests at The Wall That Heals, a replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The replica display, presented by Bloom Township, will be on display at Marian Catholic High School, 700 Ashland Ave. in Chicago Heights, starting mid-afternoon Wednesday, July 6.

Other planned events include a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, and a closing ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10.

The Wall That Heals is a three-quarters scale version of the memorial. Along with the replica wall are three video displays, including Hometown Heroes, a rotating display of the names and photos of local people who died during the war; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund In Memory program; and a display showing samples of the more than 400,000 items left behind at the memorial in Washington.
