Homewood parade Homewood 4th of July parade will start at 10 a.m. from the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve. The route from St. Joseph to the turn from Dixie to Ridge will be a quiet zone with no sirens or other loud sounds. Izaak WAlton Community picnic Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road, invites everyone to a picnic following the Homewood parade, with food and beverages served and traditional games and activities for the whole family. Flossmoor parade The Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department annual 4th of July parade will start at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and will end on Sterling Avenue downtown. Kids are invited to decorate bikes and wagons and join the parade. fireworks Fireworks are illegal in Illinois and when set off in residential areas can be frightening to pets and annoying to neighbors. But there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the traditional 4th of July activity on Monday: Thornton’s celebration will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a parade that begins at the police and community center at 700 Park Ave. and ends at Hubbard Park, Hubbard Street and W. Margaret Street. There will be an obstacle course for kids. The fireworks show will begin at dusk. (Note: A number of area media organizations have inadvertently posted the details of the celebration in Thornton, Colorado. That’s a long trip. Thornton, Illinois, is just around the corner.) Tinley Park’s event starts at 4 p.m. with the fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. in McCarthy Park, 16801 80th Ave. Frankfort’s celebration starts at 5 p.m. with live music and activities before the fireworks show at dusk. Main Park, 200 S. Locust St. Park Forest’s event starts with a parade at 6 p.m. starting at Main Street and Orchard. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. Watch from the Village Green, Main Street and Cunningham Drive. South Holland will have a fireworks show at 9 p.m. at South Suburban College, 15800 S. State St.
