Homewood’s Ridge Road property has interest from developer

A developer has expressed interest in purchasing property Homewood trustees voted to buy just two months ago.

Trustees will consider a motion at their meeting Tuesday whether to advertise for alternative bids on the property at 2052-2066 Ridge Road. If no other bids are submitted by 5 p.m. on July 8, the board can decide whether to direct staff to enter into sale negotiations with Third Coast Development, which has expressed interest in buying it.

Third Coast has been interested in building in downtown Homewood for several years. In 2016, the firm entered into a contract to buy the former Triumph Building, which then stood at the corner of Ridge Road and Martin Avenue.

The deal fell through, however, and the building later was purchased and demolished by HCF Homewood to make way for the Hartford Building, currently under construction.

The board also will consider a resolution honoring Public Works Director John Schaefer for 40 years of service to the Village of Homewood by naming the Homewood Booster Station No. 3 to the John D. Schaefer Water Booster Station No. 3.

Schaefer has overseen numerous major public works projects in his four decades with the village, most recently the water provider switch from Harvey to Chicago Heights.

In other business, the board will consider:

  • A resolution approving the minutes of executive sessions held between January 2022 to May 24, 2022, and authorizing the destruction of audio recordings of executive sessions held from July 2020 through December 2020.
  • A resolution determining minutes or portions thereof from executive sessions no longer requiring confidential treatment.
  • Appointing Harry Boerema to the Veterans Committee.
  • Waiving competitive bidding for an emergency purchase due to supply chain and manufacturing disruptions; and authorizing the purchase of a 2022 Ford F450 Dump Truck from D’Orazio Ford of Wilmington.

The board also will witness the administration of several oaths of office, including Valerie Berstene, village planner; Sharon Sedgwick, Beautification Committee; Nerissa Major, finance supervisor; Richard Wachowski, information technology manager.

Following the open meeting, the board plans to convene in closed session to discuss pending litigation.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the village hall board room, 2020 Chestnut Road.

The meeting also can be attended remotely by visiting zoom.us. Select: “join a meeting” from the menu at the top right of the page. Use meeting ID 980 4907 6232 and password 830183. To listen to the meeting via phone, dial 312-626-6799 and login with the above ID and password followed by #.

In addition to public comment opportunities during the meeting, residents can send their views to [email protected] or by placing written comments in the drop box outside village hall. Any comments submitted before 4 p.m. on the meeting date will be distributed to all trustees prior to the meeting.
