Name the dinosaur contest ends Friday, June 24

It’s large. It’s green. And it needs a name.

The board of directors of the Homewood Science Center is excited to introduce one of its new exhibits – a special kids-style dinosaur.  But they want this creature to have a name.

is looking for suggestions.

Kids are invited to submit their entries by Friday, June 24. The application is on the HSC website.

The dinosaur will be the focal point of the HSC’s STEAM Studio that is currently undergoing a renovation and redesign. Once completed, the 900-square-foot space will give kids new and greater opportunities to create and learn about the interactions of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) and how they relate to our world.

Edie Dobrez, executive director of the Homewood Science Center, said she anticipates the renovation work will be completed in July.

Dobrez said the dinosaur was one of seven large exhibits, and several smaller ones, that were given to HSC by SciTech of Aurora. The SciTech Hands-on Museum is moving from its space and transitioning to an outreach model and offered several of its exhibits to HSC.

In addition to the dinosaur, HSC acquired a skeleton, a hologram exhibit, a hands-on pulley exhibit and a behind-the-scenes exhibit that shows kids how piping, electrical and other facets of building operations that are hidden behind the drywall.

HSC also is gearing up for Summer Fest, a July 28 fundraiser, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Rabid Brewing in Homewood. Details and ticket information are at homewoodsciencecenter.org.
