Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra announces summer concert series at Olympia Fields Country Club

The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra will present four summer concerts of classical, jazz and contemporary works as its IPO Summer @ Olympia Fields Country Club 2022 series.

Two performances will be given at 6:15 p.m. and again at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday,  June 22, July 13, July 27, and Aug. 10. Guests can arrange to have dinner at the country club.

“Energetic, beautiful, and engaging music for 55 minutes on a summer evening – IPO Summer @ Olympia Fields Country Club chamber music concerts have become a huge draw for hundreds of Southland residents looking to enjoy great music,” said IPO Executive Director Christina Salerno. “This year we have another fantastic lineup of musicians playing specially curated diverse selections, plus we are partnering with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic to bring their innovative Third Stream classical/jazz fusion to the stage.”

  • The June 22 concert features a clarinet, violin, piano trio with Claire Werling on clarinet, Brian Ostrega on violin and Marilyn Bourgeois on piano. Guests will enjoy the lyricism, whim, and spontaneity the clarinet, violin and piano can bring with works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Gian Carlo Menotti, Francis Poulenc, Darius Milhaud, and a special arrangement of Dmitri Shostakovich’s collection of Five Pieces.
  • The July 13 string quartet of Azusa Tashiro and Janis Sakai on violin, Pedro Mendez on viola, and Jacob Hanegan on cello exploring the boundaries between popular, folk, rock, classical, and contemporary music. This diverse program of works by Vivian Fung, Caroline Shaw, Jessie Montgomery, Mark O’Connor, Phillip Glass, and others, will reframe what many think of as ‘classical music’ and simultaneously celebrate the fresh and exciting multilingual voice of the 21st century American string quartet.
  • The July 27 of summer songs and dances features a quintet — Claire Werling on clarinet, Lee Shirer on horn, Erin Kozakis, bassoon, Cynthia Fudala on flute and Christine Janzow Phillips on oboe. Works from cowboy songs to spirituals will have guests toe-tapping and humming along to works by American and Latin American composers.
  • The Aug. 10 concert of jazz features performances by members of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble.
