Homewood police investigate carjacking that ended in Indiana

Homewood police are investigating a reported carjacking incident that began about 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Shell gas station, 17951 S. Halsted St., and ended with the arrest of two suspects by Indiana State Police.

The victim told police that two subjects armed with handguns approached him while he was sitting in his vehicle.

One subject took the driver’s cell phone, then ordered the driver and a passenger to exit the vehicle. The subjects fled northbound in the silver 2010 Chevy Impala.

The victim’s vehicle was later located near Interstate 80 and Cline Avenue by the Indiana State Police during a separate incident. Two suspects were taken into custody.

Indianapolis television station WRTV reported that one of the suspects displayed a firearm and was shot by ISP officers during the incident. 

The victim reported the carjacking to Homewood police an hour and a half after it occurred, police said. The Homewood case is still pending investigation.
