Park district adds new programs to summer schedule

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has several new programs on tap for junior high kids, adults and the H-F community.

How about sitting around a bonfire visiting with your neighbors? The park district is making it easy to do. Come out for two community bonfires from 8 to 9:30 p.m. The first on June 14 is at Indian Trails Park, at the intersection of Riegel Road and Willow Road in Homewood, and the second will be June 28 at Leavitt Park, 1010 Leavitt Ave. in Flossmoor.

The free community bonfires will give residents an enjoyable evening roasting marshmallows and sharing conversation.

It’s time for adult fun at the bocce ball courts at Wiley’s Grill in Flossmoor. The park district is organizing an adult bocce ball league meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 14 through Aug. 30. Co-ed teams should be no more than four players and designate a captain to register the team. The fee is $150 for residents and $250 for non-residents.

This year, the park district is offering Teen Camp 2022 for kids ages 11 to 14. This program includes enrichment activities and fun happenings, and three scheduled field trips per week, including roller skating, bowling, a trip to the zoo and water parks. This camp runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for nine weeks June 6 through Aug. 5.

The fee is $175 per week for residents, and $200 per week for nonresidents.

To assist working parents, the park district offers “after camp” to extend the day a few extra hours until 6 p.m.

A complete list of all summer camps, outdoor camps, Hobo Jungle and sports camps, swim lesson schedules and Minecraft engineering with Lego materials is at hfparks.com.

Registration for these and other park programs can be made at hfparks.com or by calling the park district office at 708-957-0300.
