Erdey hired as communications director at H-F

Carla Erdey was hired to be the new spokesperson for Homewood-Flossmoor High School and District 233. The school board approved her appointment at its April 5 board meeting.

Erdey will have the title of director of communications and community engagement. Her salary will be $135,000. She starts July 1.

Erdey will be taking over from Jodi Bryant who has had two administrative positions – director of public relations and director of human resources. Bryant will retain her work as director of human resources.

Erdey will come to H-F from District 230 where she is director of communications. She previously served as director of community relations for Plainfield District 202. Erdey is active in the National School Public Relations Association and the organization’s Illinois chapter named her the Illinois Distinguished Communicator.

Also at the meeting, Lawrence Cook, chief school business official, informed the board that District 233 was one of 136 Illinois educational institutions, both public and private, to be awarded a $365,000 Community Partnership Grant. The funds will be used to help students with social/emotional needs, especially those who need help in academics. The funding will help the district cover costs for an evening program for tutoring, and meetings with social workers and counselors.

Cook also reported District 233 received a $20,900 American Rescue Plan grant to support homeless students. The district will use the money for transportation costs.

The board hired the firm Lauderbach & Amen to serve as the district’s auditors.
