CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP - Homewood Science Center is accepting applications for its Ecology and Conservation Internship for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. The internship will focus on the unique characteristics and interrelationships in three different ecosystems: woodland, prairie, and wetland.

Interns will meet at Homewood Izaak Walton Nature Preserve for five Saturdays, beginning May 7. Sessions are led by a Chicago Public School science educator and an entomology specialist. Apply by April 22 at homewoodsciencecenter.org . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
