Blood drive April 23 and 24

Versiti Blood Centers is hosting a blood drive April 23 and 24 in honor of Kristin Arielle Oliver, a cancer patient who died in 2020.

The blood drive will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, at Sgt. Means Park, 20712 Western Ave. in Olympia Fields.

Oliver died at age 32 after being diagnosed with a rare heart cancer and undergoing numerous chemotherapy treatments that required blood transfusions. Her family is organizing the blood drive to help others who are in need of blood.

Donors must be in general good health, feel well when donating and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors younger than 18 must have parent consent. Appointments are preferred and can be made at 1-800-786-4483 or at www.versiti.org.

The blood drive is co-sponsored by Oliver’s family along with NBC5 Chicago, Center for Food Equity in Medicine and the Olympia Fields Park District. Donations of non-perishable food items are also welcome.
