Attalia Watson-Castro holds her nephew, Kainoa Watson, in one arm and a sign proclaiming her as the state champion wrestler in the 135-pound class in the other.

Watson-Castro and her teammates received a lights-and-sirens escort from Interstate 80 to Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s North Building, arriving shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

She got congratulations and a big hug from Flossmoor Mayor Michelle Nelson amid the cheers of teammates, families and school officials.
