CONNECT TO FLOSSMOOR - Flossmoor residents can now use TextMyGov, a mobile phone-based service provided by the village, to report issues and get information. The automated system allows users to interact by using keywords such as potholes, tree trimming, bill pay, animal license, jobs, office hours and more. To start, text “Hi” to (708) 249-3224.

Residents can also sign up to receive text messages with village-related updates. Messages will include information about village events and policies, as well as alerts for emergencies and severe weather. Opt in by texting “FLOSSMOOR” to 91896 . . .

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
