Schools shift to e-learning to avoid weather-related issues

Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District 161 will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 2, to avoid students coming to schools in what could be a dangerous winter weather storm.

The National Weather Service said the South Suburbs can expect up to 10-inches of snow overnight into Wednesday morning making for hazardous conditions.

The districts made the announcements in the early afternoon Tuesday.

Schools would often build “snow days” into their calendars in case of inclement weather and emergencies, but the use of technology now means students can continue classwork at home when school districts designate weather-related closings.
