HOLIDAY METRA SERVICE - Metra operates on a Saturday schedule today. There is no service on the North Central, Heritage Corridor, or Southwest service lines. Alcohol is not permitted on trains after 7 p.m.

COLD & SNOWY - The National Weather Service predicts a significant winter storm will impact our area Saturday, with the potential for several inches of accumulating and blowing snow. Travel may become hazardous due to snow-covered roads and low visibilities. On Sunday, the coldest air we have seen this season is predicted to shift over the area, resulting in subzero wind chills into early Monday morning . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
