LIBRARIES CLOSED - Both Homewood and Flossmoor public libraries are closed Friday for staff in-service sessions. They reopen Saturday with normal hours.

HOMEWOOD HOLIDAY LIGHTS - The village's annual celebration returns with a tree lighting, live music, ballerinas, reindeer, a kiddie train, shopping, hot chocolate, mulled wine, beer and more. 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown Homewood.

LIVE NATIVITY - Faith Lutheran Church in Homewood hosts a live outdoor nativity. Meet the animals, witness the Christmas story and enjoy hot cocoa. The first 45 families to attend will get a free book. 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
