H-F principal search process looking to January wrap-up

The search continues for the next principal of Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Although the board isn’t likely to meet its original December target, Superintendent-elect Scott Wakeley said he expects the board will finalize an appointment in January.

BWP Consultants, which is leading the search, has posted the job on various websites and job posting sites. The firm will be developing the characteristics the next principal should have based on input from community surveys and meetings with H-F students, staff and administrators.

After Thanksgiving, BWP will start going through applications to select a slate of candidates, Wakeley said. That pool will be reduced to two or three finalists. The District 233 school board will be interviewing the finalists. Stakeholder groups will also be asked for their feedback on the finalists, he said.

Wakeley expects the school board will make the appointment official at the Jan. 18 board meeting.

James Mitchem is serving as the H-F principal this year on a one-year contract. Former principal Jerry Lee Anderson left the position in June to become principal at Bloom Township High School.
