Flossmoor Veterans Memorial group provides support for veterans

In keeping with “the spirit of purpose, respect, and kinship” found in its mission statement, Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial, Inc. (FVM) is partnering with the village of Flossmoor to support the residents of Manteno Veterans’ Home.

On Nov. 11 and 12, residents may drop off personal care and snack items for the veterans at Flossmoor Village Hall during regular business hours. Those items will be packaged and delivered to Manteno Veterans’ Home during the week of Nov. 15.

“While our corporate goal is to generate funds for the construction and maintenance of a veterans’ wall of honor within the Village of Flossmoor, our mission statement also speaks to honoring those who can benefit from our support and efforts,” said FVM President Paul Braun. “Collecting these items for our veterans is a small, but tangible, way to show them we think of them and we are grateful for their service.”

Personal items requested by Manteno include T-shirts, sweatpants/shirts, and pajamas (sizes M/L to 4X); new electric razors, aftershave and body wash; tissues and hair cream.

Foodstuffs can include small packaged candy bars and chips; individually packaged crackers and cookies; and sugar-free gum and candy. A full list of items is available on FVM’s social media (http://flossmoorvets.square.site and @honoringflossmoorvets on Facebook).

Village Clerk Gina LoGalbo, herself a veteran of the United States Marines, is coordinating the dropoff and delivery efforts. In addition to LoGalbo, other corporate officers and members of the steering committee include John Beele, Kristine Condon, Richard Condon, Flossmoor Village Trustee Brian Driscoll, Jim Fornaciari, Josh Grenard, Robert Guilfoyle, Tony Manos, Greg Mitchell and Calvin Young. Flossmoor Mayor Michelle Nelson is serving as an ex-officio member of the committee.
