Homewood board to consider new trustee, review 183rd Street traffic study

Homewood trustees are expected to approve the nomination of Chenise “Cece” Belue to fill the seat vacated when Barbara Dawkins resigned recently.

Dawkins accepted an appointment as a judge with the Cook County Circuit Court. Belue is a former member of the Homewood Public Library Board of Directors.

The trustees also will receive a presentation on the 183rd Street traffic study that was commissioned in February. Residents had generated a petition seeking action on chronic speeding and other dangerous driving behavior following a fatal crash at the intersection of 183rd Street and Center Avenue in 2020.

The study, released last week, was conducted by Burns and McDonnell of Kansas City. It provides crash data and information on the places where injuries are most likely to occur from Halsted Street on the east to Park Avenue on the west.

It also provides a range of options, some the village could consider implementing with its own resources, and others that would require state, federal or other funding sources.

The board will also consider the sale of the former Bogart’s Charhouse site to Homewood Brewing LLC.

In other business, the board will consider:

  • Appointing Barbara Dawkins to the Economic Development Committee.
  • Reappointing Deborah Baldauf, Carolyn Bury, and Karl Persons to the Tree Committee.
  • An intergovernmental agreement for health inspections with the Cook County Department of Public Health.
  • A budget amendment for $4,500 to purchase stationary license plate readers.
  • Approving the minutes from the Dixie HIghway/Miller Court tax increment financing public hearing on Sept. 22, 2020.
  • A presentation on the 2021 real estate tax levy.
  • A special use permit and parking variance for a salon business at 2413-2415 183rd St.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the board room at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. Everyone who attends in person will be required to wear a mask.
