LIBRARY SALE REOPENS - The Friends of the Library Book Sale has reopened at Homewood Library. This collection of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, records and other media is now open for browsing and purchases on the top level of the library during regular hours. Donations are not currently being accepted.

CROSSING GUARDS NEEDED - Help keep Flossmoor's children safe by becoming a school crossing guard. Work hours are before and after school. Candidates must be 18 or older, and pass a background check and blood test. Apply at Flossmoor Police Department . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
