FLOSSMOOR LEAF COLLECTION - Starting today, Flossmoor residents can place leaves in 33-gallon biodegradable paper bags at the curb by 6 a.m. for collection on scheduled days.

Homewood Disposal customers should put them out on trash collection days. Republic Services customers should visit the Flossmoor village website and refer to the color-coded map schedule.

Leaves only; no brush, grass clippings, tree branches or landscape waste. Free, no yard waste sticker needed. Call the Flossmoor Public Works Department at (708) 957-4100 with questions . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
