Applications being accepted for middle school students’ science internship

The Homewood Science Center invites sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to apply for the fall science internship at Izaak Walton Preserve in Homewood.

The conservation ecology workshop will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 18 through Oct. 23, for 12 hours of programming and four hours of community service on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The internship is designed as a student-led program for scientific investigation, discovery and leadership. The sessions will be led by Patricia Messersmith, senior educator at the Museum of Science and Industry; Nicole Fuller, Chicago Public Schools science teacher; and Kandis Demeo, entomology specialist.

The program complements the ecosystems science content and the science and engineering practices in the Next Generation Science Standards.

The deadline for applications is Sept. 10. For more information visit homewoodsciencecenter.org.
