Preckwinkle issues executive order mandating vaccines for Cook County employees (free content)

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle issued an executive order on Friday, Aug. 20, that will require all county employees to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19 by Oct. 15.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle issued an executive order on Friday, Aug. 20, that will require all county employees to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19 by Oct. 15.

The order affects employees in the under Preckwinkle’s jurisdiction, but she urged separately elected offices to follow suit.

“We know that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective and the best way to protect ourselves and our communities, especially in light of the highly-contagious Delta variant,” she said in a statement following the order.

The order notes that the step is necessary to protect the health of employee and the public and is a “requirement to maintain safe in-person operations.”

“This is the pragmatic and responsible thing to do as we work to put the pandemic behind us. Let’s come together and turn the page to the next chapter in history,” she said.
