H-F Parks looking for employees at Wednesday job fair

Are you someone who wants to work alongside a golf pro? Maybe you have a certain skill, such as Pilates personal trainer or hockey instructor?

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has immediate openings in more than 20 job categories and will be sharing information with job applicants at a 4 to 7 p.m. job fair on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Clubhouse at Dolphin Lake, 183rd Street at Governors Highway in Homewood.

“The Job Fair will offer the opportunity for candidates to meet our supervisory team and talk about the wide variety of positions available. In addition, part of the building will be set up for on-site interviews that can be done during the job fair,” said Debbie Kopas, parks’ executive director. “We have plenty of part-time positions, ranging from four to 30 hours a week, seven days a week from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. There should be something for anyone interested.”

The park district is also looking for several full-time positions, including custodian, building maintenance supervisor and program supervisor. Many jobs also come with employee benefits. Details on each job are available at hfparks.com.

“A lot has changed at the park district since early 2020. Unfortunately, we were forced to eliminate certain positions during the pandemic due to an overwhelming loss of revenue at all facilities. Four full-time employees also opted to retire during 2020-21,” Kopas said.

“On the bright side, now we have the opportunity to reevaluate all our positions as we start to build back stronger. We have taken a creative approach to some positions, by combining similar responsibilities at multiple facilities into full-time positions that include benefits,” she explained.

“We have also tapped into the talent we already have on staff by utilizing their skills in a variety of buildings and supporting them with new staff. This approach of taking a new look at all positions led us to create several new full-time offerings instead of relying quite as heavily on part-time workers,” she said.
