As driver shortage eases, D161’s transportation woes lessen

Another trio of Homewood-Flossmoor athletes officially signed to play college sports Wednesday, April 20, as the school held a photo session for the students and their families.

Colton Karczewski signed his letter to play college baseball at the Division III level at the University of Dubuque in Iowa.

The Spartans roster currently includes 17 players from Illinois and another from Indiana who went to high school at Mount Carmel.

“That wasn’t important to me, but it happens to be nice,” he said. “They like recruiting from Illinois, I guess.”

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
