Family eyes Flossmoor Commons for soul food restaurant, requests liquor license

Several teachers gained tenure, others were honored, and principals offered updates at the Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 14.

The district’s three elementary school principals provided the board with updates and reflections on their respective building’s School Improvement Plan. These plans are ongoing initiatives to continuously improve student learning and school culture.

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
