Drama Group presents virtual performance of ‘Keeley and Du’

The Drama Group presents its final 2020-21 season production, “Keely and Du” as a virtual staged reading opening Friday, July 9, with performances over two weekends.

“Keely and Du,” a 1994 nominee for a Pulitzer Prize, focuses on abortion rights. Du is a right-to-life activist and Keely is a rape victim who finds herself pregnant. Du attempts to stop Keely from getting an abortion. Through their conversations, the women find a way to transcend their circumstances and the ideological issues that separate them.

Audiences are warned that the play touches on the sensitive topics of abortion, sexual assault and kidnapping.

The staged readings will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, July 9 and 10 and July 16 and 17, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, July 11 and July 18.

The staged play readings are provided free to audiences as a new pandemic-driven method of bringing Broadway to the South Suburbs. However, the Drama Group does incur some added production costs. Donations will help defray these expenses.
