7/2/2021 | What You Need to Know This Weekend

FLOSSMOOR PARADE - On Saturday, decorate bicycles and wagons in red, white and blue and join in the return of Flossmoor Fire Department's annual Independence Day parade. Line up at 9:30 a.m. in the Parker Junior High School parking lot. Parade steps off at 10 a.m. and proceeds into downtown Flossmoor, where it is followed by a demonstration of fire department operations.

METRA HOLIDAY SCHEDULE - On Monday, Metra trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule in observance of Independence Day. From Saturday to Monday, alcohol and glass bottles are prohibited on all Metra trains.

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
