PADS volunteers at St. Joseph Church in Homewood are sponsoring a household supplies drive from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, to benefit families in need who are about to transition to their own apartments.
This will be a contact-free drive. Donations in bags and boxes will be removed from cars.
Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) was forced to close its sites the past 15 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now PADS teams, including the group at St. Joseph’s, are helping people prepare to transition to independent living. While apartments have been found, these residents are lacking the basic items needed to set up housekeeping.
Volunteers will be collecting new items for kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and cleaning supplies. Suggested donations include:
- For the kitchen: Plates, silverware, glassware, cookware, oven mitts, dish clothes, cooking and serving utensils.
- For the bathroom: Towels and bathmats, toilet bowl brush, shower curtain and toilet paper.
- For the bedroom: Sheets in twin, double and crib size, pillowcases, pillows, blankets, comforters, mattress covers.
- Cleaning supplies: Paper towels, mop and bucket, broom and dust mop, all-purpose cleaning spray, dish and hand soap, garbage can and bags, toilet bowl cleaner.
Furniture is not being collected.
Checks are welcome and can be made payable to South Suburban PADS, with housing in-kind drive in the memo.
