Happy retirement: Second career choice brought science teacher to H-F

Young thespians with 23 Miles South Theatre will present “Tinker Bell,” a look at the story of Peter Pan from the perspective of his fairy friend Tinker Bell, at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5.

This storyline starts with Tinker Bell leaving Neverland for London to find a friend. She meets a young boy named Peter Pan who has just run away from his family so he can be a little boy forever and have fun. Tinker Bell takes him to Neverland, but when others follow, Tinker Bell isn’t sure she likes sharing Peter Pan with others . . .

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
