H-F video and film students win 10 awards

Homewood-Flossmoor High School students won 10 awards at the Midwest Media Educators Association’s 28th annual High School Video Festival.

The program was virtual this year and aired on April 30.

MMEA selected four H-F videos for first place honors: 

  • “Getting a Job” by Jason Ward in the comedic narrative category.
  • “Basketball vs. Lockport” by Olivia Sowacke, Gianna Smith and Jotham Israel in the live event sports coverage category.
  • “Finding Innocence” by Ben Turnquest and Eliana D’Astici in the movie trailer category.
  • “Lovely” by Layla LaNier in the music video category.

Second place winners:

  • “Homewood Baseball” by Jason Ward in the documentary category.
  • “Gymnastics vs. Andrew” by Jackie Klupchak and Joe Sullivan in the live event sports coverage.
  • “The Most Devine” by Joe Sullivan, Chloe Castady and Adam Freeman in the movie trailer category.

Third place winner:

  • “The Gift of the Stars” by Adam Freeman in the dramatic narrative category.

Fifth place winners: 

  • “Black in America” by Tori Wright in the documentary category.
  • “Sleepless Night” by Ben Turnquest in the dramatic narrative category.

These students are all part of Viking TV and H-F film classes under the direction of teacher Mark Ciesielski.

Ciesielski is also president of the Midwest Media Educators Association this year.
