H-F awards tenure to five faculty members

The themes of the sixth annual Pursuing the Dream event at Homewood-Flossmoor High School were faith and joy.

Andre Thomas, founder of the event as an H-F senior in 2016, was the first guest speaker to deliver that message.

Thomas said when he took the idea for the event honoring Martin Luther King Jr. to H-F Activities Director Gail Smith, she encouraged him to make it happen, but she suggested he write a proposal and create an event that would continue after he graduated.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
