CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Watch out for lane closures on Dixie Highway from Chicago Road to 183rd Street in Homewood, as IDOT works on a $3.1 million project to resurface the 3.5-mile stretch and construct new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. Work continues through late October. 

FISH FOR ALL - All anglers and aspiring fishing fans can enjoy the H-F Park District Spring Fishing Derby from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Dolphin Lake. "Need a pole? Borrow one from Irons Oaks. Need bait? Worms will be available." Kids have a chance to win prizes . . .

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.

Saturday, Oct. 15

  • Dia de los Muertos in downtown Homewood. Details to follow.
