H-F students have first and second place win in math competition

GIRLS STEAM SUCCESS CLUB - Homewood Science Center is accepting applications for its Girls STEAM SUCCESS Club. Apply to join the free club, which is limited to 50 middle school students who identify as girls. The club meets bi-monthly January through August, when girls will connect, meet women in STEM careers and have fun with science.

Priority for club acceptance will be given to students in eighth grade, residents of south suburban Cook County households receiving public assistance, and girls who commit to attending meetings and special events. Apply at the HSC website under "Programs . . .

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
