Late election results build suspense in local election (free content)

With Homewood and Flossmoor residents eager to see the results of several competitive and highly anticipated races, the Cook County Clerk's office drew out the suspense Tuesday night.

Unofficial election results, which usually begin to appear soon after the polls close, did not begin to appear on the clerk's website until almost 9:50 p.m.

Part of the delay was attributed to extensions granted to 30 precincts because of delays opening in the morning. Shortly before 7 p.m., County Clerk Karen Yarbrough announced that the precincts — none in Homewood or Flossmoor — would stay open until . . .

Fall events

Saturday, Sept. 24

  • Homewood Fall Fest and Chili Cook-off, noon to 9 p.m. Chili tasting is open to the public for a donation from 3 to 5 p.m. Three live music performances, plus horse-drawn wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, crafts and other activities.
