My family discovered the magic of farmers markets when we lived in Champaign and made weekly treks to the Urbana Farmers Market.

There’s just something about a farmers market that feels wholesome and relaxing. Leaving with a bag full of fresh produce makes you feel you’re doing good things for your hard-working body. Getting a chance for a chat with friends and neighbors renews important relationships. Local musicians feed the souls of everyone in the vicinity.

Farmers markets make life better.

Summer events

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
