SSHS donations accepted for operations, pet surgeries

The Flossmoor School District 161 board of education shifted how it is approaching its complicated 2021 tax levy after receiving new information from the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

The school board voted unanimously on Monday, Nov. 22, to apply for a 2021 Property Tax Relief Grant that would see the district get $1.72 million in state funds in exchange for abating $1.89 million in property taxes for two consecutive years. The board also voted unanimously to approve its tentative property tax levy at $24.76 million, which would mark a 1.62% increase over the 2020 aggregate . . .

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
