Local environmental advocacy group to host community clean-up this weekend

South Suburbs for Greenspace over Concrete (SSGOC) is hosting a service weekend on March 27 and 28 to show the unified commitment of Homewood and Hazel Crest residents to protecting, preserving, and enhancing the beauty of the Southland.

On Saturday, March 27, the group will be removing post-snow trash accumulation in Homewood and will do the same in Hazel Crest Sunday, March 28.

On Saturday, SSGOC requests that participants gather at at 12:45 p.m. at the Irwin Park gazebo, Ridge Road and Gottschalk Avenue, to receive maps of cleanup locations.

The group and volunteers will meet at the parking lot on the south side of the intersection at 175th Street and Holmes Avenue in Hazel Crest at 12:45 on March 28.

The cleanup on both days will be from 1–3 p.m.

Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Masks are required. Some safety vests will be available, but participants are asked to bring their own if they have them. Snacks, drinks, and “Truck No” signs will be available for small donations.

The event is receiving support from the Homewood Science Center, the Village of Hazel Crest and Homewood Disposal.
